Readers read.
If you are someone that loves reading, chances are you have many.. MANY more books that you want to read than you have hours in the day – or even years in a lifetime to read.
That’s okay. Reading should never be about an obsession to read everything you have even the remotest interest in. Reading should be about enjoying the process of discovery and participation in a rich, full, and complex world of books, ideas, thoughts, and concepts.
Which, generally still leaves everyone I know wanting to read more.
Like many activities we wish to do more of – the new year is the arbitrary signal to refocus and recommit to those things we want to make habitual. I’m not opposed to the idea of the New Year’s resolutions – but I’m also not a huge fan. I think commitment is an on-going process that can (and should?) take place at multiple intervals throughout the year. Maybe the book “The 12 Week Year” is a great place to begin reading about this.
Habits require incremental attention. So for reading, I thought I would share my system on how I do read 84 or more books a year. It’s actually not that revolutionary. I read every day for 60 minutes – 30 in the morning, 30 later in the day. (With little reading breaks as appropriate).
Here’s my latest YouTube video on this subject.
