Why using Virtual Machines helps learning

For my entire career in teaching technology, I have used Virtual Machines to help students create learning environments tailored to the technologies they are studying.

A Virtual Machine allows me to run one (or several) computers systems using the shared resources of my “host” or “main” computer system. This is especially useful because rather than having to invest in multiple computers to learn networking, programming, or other Operating Systems – students can use VMs.

I’m currently making a series of YouTube videos on how I create, use, and share these learning “sandboxes”. Here is one on installing Ubuntu Linux.
