Data Engineering – evolving the Program I’m Teaching

My role as an Instructor for a Post-Graduate, Fast-Track program involves some challenges and some huge benefits.

The challenges are always time, and time, and time – there is a lot to learn in a short period of time. This means that the level of self-efficacy amongst the students has to be extraordinarily high.

Fortunately, it generally is. The students take-on and complete the intense learning at a very rapid pace. With a more mature student profile, I see a corresponding dedication to learning the materials at a fast pace.

The other challenge should be keeping up with changes to the evolving field of Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, and Data Analysis. However, I’m fortunate in that the program I teach has a lot of adaptability to the market – because it is a blend of Corporate-style training and Traditional Academic education.

This means that each time the program runs, I am able to stay within the objectives of the courses, but also add and adapt with external materials and ideas as needed to maintain currency and relevancy in the field.

I’ve just introduced THREE new resources for students that I’m very excited about:

Data Engineering https://amzn.to/3P60dBU

Excellent book – the overview I’ve been looking for for years – this is the book that best covers what the Program I teach is all about

Murcah’s Python Programming https://amzn.to/3WYXTyr

A classic book for an important skill. While we won’t cover this end-to-end, it will be a strong resource to further support student success

Murach’s Python for Data Analytics https://amzn.to/3oUSU5n

The line between Data Engineering and Data Analysis can be a little blurred – and the students often get hired for roles with aspects of both – so – we teach both.

These are new to the program and I hope will prove to be valuable as we use them to expand even more content related to Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, and Reporting.
