The move into more Cloud services has taken hold for both business and consumer markets. The convenience of Cloud Storage for back-ups has grown into an entire Infrastructure solution with Storage, Compute, Networking, Development, Infrastructure, Platform, and Software as a Service.
While I could write pages and pages on any of these areas of Cloud Computing – there are areas of the Cloud that are still less developed and evolving.
Some of these areas are around graphics and media creation. On the consumer end, we still see video games and graphically intense solutions requiring dedicated, local systems. Google Stadia has sought to provide Gaming in the Cloud and, as a member since launch, I can attest that this has evolved and provides some excellent games via an Internet connection.
Commercial film and video production is also an example of where local resources are needed – although there is still a hybrid architecture that has begun to move some aspects into Cloud Services.
This evolution continues and an interesting service was the topic of my latest YouTube Video: “Edit Videos Online with Microsoft Clipchamp”.
Microsoft acquired Clipchamp back in September of 2021 and I noticed it pop up as an application in my personal account for Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365). I was impressed with the power of this web-based video editor and think it will be interesting to see it’s continued evolution.
As a solution for students needing to complete a richer media assignment, a small business building social media content, and the myriad of other uses video can provide – it bears examination.
It’s not the only online editing tool for video, but having Microsoft behind it is a big deal in my opinion. The maturity of high-speed connectivity, Cloud Infrastructure, and the ability to move more services to a Cloud model is only increasing in pace and capabilities.
