Our reality today is that we will be working with webcams in our work life. Whether a few days a week of remote work, a meeting that spans geography, or a “face-to-face” interview or discussion – webcams are now a larger part of our work life then ever before.

In many ways, the built in cameras that came with many laptops and computers before our move to remote work were a lucky coincidence. They were useful in the past, but not used as much as they have been for the past couple of years – when they became an absolute requirement. We also saw a huge surge in sales of external webcams over the past two years for those that didn’t have built-in options.

All of this has changed how we use video in our workplace – and opened even more possibilities of how we can use video in both remote and in person presentations.

My most recent Youtube video looks at two technologies that I think are extremely powerful for communication – remotely, in a classroom, in a meeting room.

The first is a CZUR document scanner that can be used as a presentation tool. We can use this to capture, annotate, and project close-up images of documents to an audience. The idea of a document projector isn’t new, but the functionality and added features of the CZUR (as well as it’s inexpensive price point) make it worth considering.

The second – Reincubate Camo is a software solution that allows you to attach a camera (and your phone) to your computer and use it as a webcam. Their studio software extends the capabilities of the video device you attach and by using a longer cable, you can literally extend the reach of the camera – which offers a huge number of in-person and remote possibilities. Even in cases where you have a built-in camera, I recommend this software to give you many more choices and options in terms of camera placement and functionality. (I’ll be making another video on the Mac version updates – which are also coming to Windows soon)

Here is the video on these two tools:
